The new addition contains within it a kitchen that becomes the ‘social zone’ of the house along with the dining room and the living area. A series of sliding glass doors connect the home with the central courtyard and the rear pool retreat that also contains a spacious wooden deck barbecue zone and outdoor dining space.
A patio next to the staircase that connects the two levels of the house charms you with a vintage car on display while a small entrance leads to the main level on the ground floor. A series of courtyards gardens and small walkways creates a refreshing outdoor space where a stunning pool and a shaded outdoor lounge become the focal point of all activity.
A new basement level was added and the existing roof was extended creating two additional levels in the limited space available. The light-filled basement that extends into the private rear yard contains the new open plan living area along with the kitchen and dining room.
There are plenty of design aficionados across the world who dream about living in a ‘renovated warehouse’ that combines modern comfort with industrial aesthetics and timeless charm. This of course is not always possible because of property costs availability and the additional demands of a smart renovation. Cutting across these awkward corners and creating a breezy living atmosphere the designed by ALTS Design Office presents a brand new contemporary residence as a renovated warehouse-inspired setting.
The revamped floor plan of the house focuses on an open living area with the new kitchen and the family room acting as the social zone. Both these spaces open up towards the large rear garden and the outdoor living and dining spaces even as the living room and dining area sit next to one another.
Sliding glass doors and roof overhangs combine to extend the living area outside and create a seamless indoor-outdoor interplay. It is the ground floor that houses the living area kitchen dining room puja room and additional public spaces while the top floor holds the master suite additional bedrooms and the kids’ rooms.
As is the case with many of these traditional heritage homes the homeowners of the Bundaroo House wanted to keep the street façade of the residence intact and it is the rear addition and extension that brings an air of freshness and modernity.
